Aries Full Moon: Warrior Queen

This full moon is at 12.42 Aries at 2:40 PM on October 5th

Here we are at the high energy moon in Aries. It's an active energy, a warrior energy. Aries is traditionally thought of as a masculine sign. But this full moon's ruler, Mars, is paired with feminine Venus in the sign of Virgo, the maiden. So I began researching female warriors and I landed on Queen Boudica.

Boudica (also spelled Boadicea, Boadaceia, and other ways) was a queen of the Celtic Briton Iceni tribe in the region of modern day Norfolk when Britain was ruled by the Roman Empire. Her husband, Prasutagus, left his kingdom jointly to his two daughters and the Roman Emperor in his will when he died. Prasutagus had ruled as a more or less independent ally of the Empire, but after his death the Romans ignored the will and annexed the kingdom. According to the Roman historian Tacitus, soldiers flogged Boudica and raped her two young daughters in front of her.

In AD 60 or 61, Queen Boudica led the Iceni and other tribes in a massive uprising against Rome. Tacitus records that she addressed her army with the words, "It is not as a woman descended from noble ancestry, but as one of the people that I am avenging lost freedom, my scourged body, the outraged chastity of my daughters." Her troops destroyed the Roman settlement of Camulodunum (modern day Colchester), forced the Romans to evacuate Londinium (modern day London), and then burned both Londinium and Verulamium (modern day St. Albans). Boudica's rebellion made Nero consider withdrawing from Britain. Eventually, though, the Romans defeated the Britons, and Boudica either killed herself to avoid capture or died of illness.

There is a sculpture of Boadicea and Her Daughters leading the charge to battle in their chariot at the Westminster Bridge in London. Judy Chicago made a place setting for Boadicea in her installation The Dinner Party. Boudica has remained a popular folk hero, inspiring novels and at least one movie. She is often cited as a famous warrior queen. So maybe you've heard of her, especially if you're British. But until yesterday, despite taking four years of Latin that included some fairly comprehensive Roman history, I hadn't.

I suspect others haven't either. We often tell the stories of famous warriors. For example (in no particular order): Napoleon, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Richard the Lionheart, Attila the Hun, Spartacus. The queens and the warrior women are less well known. At this full moon, I invite you to embrace that energy of courage, leadership, and righteous aggression. Not that you're going to burn down any cities. But there is power in unearthing a history of women's sovereignty. There is power in welcoming the assertive energy of your own Mars. There is power, when necessary, in allowing your warrior energy to flow through you.

Where is Mars in your chart? This tells you something about your own way of asserting yourself. Mars reveals what drives you and what pisses you off. When you read about your Mars position by sign or house, do you loathe that part of yourself or celebrate it? Somewhere in your chart, there is the potential for a warrior queen. I encourage you to find her.

Baddie Winkle's Uranus Return

Baddie Winkle came on the Instagram scene in 2014. Helen Ruth Elam Van Winkle was 85 when her granddaughter helped her post a photo of herself wearing her great-granddaughter's clothes to Twitter. Rihanna followed her, and the rest is history. Now Baddie is a world-famous Insta star, posting photos of herself in bright, colorful outfits with the bio "stealing your man since 1928."

This is my favorite current example of a Uranus Return working out brilliantly.

Uranus takes approximately 84 years to move through all 12 signs of the zodiac, which means that he finally returns to his position in your natal chart when you're about 84 years old.

The other major Uranus transit is what we call the mid-life crisis. Around age 42, Uranus opposes the natal Uranus, causing people to re-evaluate their priorities and sometimes act out in surprising ways. When people go through a Uranus opposition, they're shedding some of the fears that have kept them from living to their full authenticity. They're realizing that if they're going to have the life they want, they have to go get it NOW! People who have already been living their truth may still find that they have a sudden inspiration to do something surprising. People who do their mid-life crisis well have either already stopped caring about what other people think, or the Uranus opposition is when they fully stop worrying about it.

By the age of 84 and the Uranus return, one hopes, there really are no fucks left to give. And that's when an octogenarian can make an unbelievable breakthrough, living brilliantly and teaching the rest of us how to live. The full genius of one's individuality, shed of conventional expectations, can now shine through.

This is Baddie Winkle's solar chart. I don't know her time of birth, so we don't have her rising sign. If she was born between midnight and 1:16 AM, Venus was at 29 Cancer. Based on her fashion personality, I'm inclined to believe she has Venus in Leo though!

From 2012 - 2014, Uranus was making passes over Baddie's natal Uranus at 7 Aries. It was most intense for her in the two years prior to becoming a social media star, but the transit was still in orb of her natal Uranus in 2014. It's often at the end of a transit, or just after, that we see the external results of the inner changes.

She's a Cancer woman with Lilith exactly trine her sun. A fiery Uranus trines her Leo Venus and Sagittarius Saturn. She says she's always been a rebel. I love that she's a Cancer, because so much of her internet fame and personality has to do with her family. With Uranus in Aries, and that Leo moon and Venus, I'm not surprised that she says she was always a fashion risk taker! She speaks in Stylist about the importance of staying young at heart. I think that's her Leo moon + Uranus return lesson for the rest of us. She's radically ageless. Her other Uranus return lesson? If someone says bad things about you, pray for those basics and keep doing you.

December 2014 is also when Saturn entered Sagittarius, beginning Baddie's THIRD Saturn return. She has of course done an amazing job of this too, spinning her Instagram popularity into contracts with two major cosmetic lines, a clothing brand, a Smirnoff commercial, a red carpet appearance, and a book deal. Structuring and sustaining that wild, rather lucky career of the Instagram influencer.

Notice she's on a throne wearing a crown in her book cover? LEO MOON. Bow down.

What else do you see in Baddie's chart? Feel free to add in the comments!
