The moon is new at 7.37 degrees of Aries on Monday, March 27th at 10:27 PM EST
I always thought Pippi Longstocking would have some Aries in her chart. The fictional main character of Astrid Lindgren's children's book series is the unconventional daughter of a buccaneer captain. She lives alone and takes care of herself because her father is believed to have been lost at sea. She is known for her extraordinary strength and her playful, irreverent spirit. She leads her neighbors Tommy and Annika on a number of adventures. They believe there is nothing Pippi cannot do, and they might be right.
Independence, wildness, courage, and initiative: these are some of the qualities Aries is known for. Aries people are unapologetically themselves, even when society demands otherwise. They run headfirst into life, creating their own adventures. Not knowing how to do something is never a problem for them. As Pippi says, "I have never tried that before, so I think I should definitely be able to do that." Aries functions best at the beginning. Planning and details are best left to other signs; for the Ram, it's all about the passion of starting something new.
Astrologers often talk about setting intentions at new moons. Making lists, doing rituals, listening to our intuition. But Aries is a little different. Aries wants action, now. This lunation asks you to act on your intentions immediately, or maybe even to act before you know exactly what your intentions are. What would you do if you knew you would succeed? Channel some of the Ram's confidence and do it now.
Beginning something new is messy. It's imperfect. There's so much more to learn, and there will definitely be mistakes. There will be details to iron out and revisions to make, and at some point the excitement of starting out will give way to the more stable energy of keeping the project going. There will be obstacles. But not caring about any of that is the Ram's trademark.
The obstacle for this new moon is Jupiter in Libra squaring Pluto in Capricorn. Our big dreams and idealistic desires are challenged by power structures and authority figures. Or, another way of looking at it: we are in the midst of a big transformation. For those who have points or planets between 15-25 degrees of Cardinal signs (Aries, Libra, Capricorn, Cancer), this can feel scary. We have the potential to create positive changes in our lives, but even positive changes can feel like crises while we're going through them.
For Aries, a challenge like Jupiter square Pluto means battle. Aries loves a good fight. A battle is another kind of adventure, and the truth is, Aries never loses. Even hard fought battles and battle scars result in war stories that Aries can tell his admiring followers on the road to the next adventure. Faced with a potential battle, Pippi's weapon was her amazing strength--she could lift a horse with one hand. The people who knew that didn't mess with her.
At this new moon, make like an Aries and act without thinking ahead. Just follow your impulse towards what would be fun. Use your incredible strength to lift the obstacles out of the way. It's time to stop planning, and just begin.
